I have been using the morale cards, and I have enjoyed using those. Being that unlimited negative morale cards can be built up, which in a tough battle can be pretty painful.And once the morale cards run out, you switch to the tokens anyways,so long games usually end up using both. So I have found it keeps it interesting.
