They did announce it, though admittedly it was buried in an update (mid to late 2021, IIRC) as a minor detail. Until they ran out of money, this was all supposed to happen after the Kickstarter distribution was long over so it's pretty unlikely that anybody would have cared at that point.
But yes, clear and consistent communication from Funforge has been a serious problem throughout the campaign. I've only been able to suss out everything I know because I read for details and I've worked on the backend of KS campaigns myself so I know a little about how the actual logistics work. A *lot* of the issues this company has faced would not have been a problem if they were better at telling people their plans.
