I've been through a ton this week trying to find a copy of this game, now kicking myself for not preordering when I had the chance. I honestly didn't understand the supply situation until it was probably way too late. That's not really the point here though..
I've called countless stores in the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) area trying to find a shop that has this game, with many false positives of stores thinking they will get copies only to not get a single one. My favorite was the store I called saying they were hopeful they'd have a copy, only to call the same number two days later and apparently it's no longer in service. My search for this game has become rather cartoonish in my head at this point.
It hit a real crescendo today though. I did some calls after my work shift in a last ditch effort for stores I hadn't called that I thought would be unlikely to even know this game existed. Got through a few and one actually said they had a copy in hand, and it wasn't even that far being just 45 minutes away. I make the drive, hoping no one buys the copy before I get there and astounded this might actually happen.
It wasn't to be. I get in the store and they have the copy, I'm frankly stunned I found one. Then they ring it up and give me my total... $275. WTF? I argued with them briefly about the retail price, but they wouldn't budge so I ended up walking out and going home.
I'm still pretty mad at this point and I'm ready to give up after this... The fact that a retail store would mark the game up doesn't surprise me at all in retrospect, but up to that moment I hadn't even thought of it as a possibility and was really blindsided by it when it happened.
I apologize for the rambling post, but I just felt the need to vent this somewhere. I am not mad at Isaac or distributors or whatever people are blaming, just sad at the situation at this point because I really want this game. That store is shitty though, acting like common scalpers... They're called More Fun Comics and Games in Denton, TX if people want that copy, or want to avoid that store in the future.
Anyone else have fun retail stories from this week? Or even better, a lead on a copy in the DFW area?

I think outing a FLGS for pricing an item at the current level people are willing to pay seems rather childish. You went through a lot of work and effort to track this game down and you never thought once you'd pay a premium considering the secondary market prices?
Also, why would there be no blame on Isaac or distributors? Maybe the stores were promised more copies from distributors and never received them. Isaac certainly would rather have the game in stock everywhere than the current short supply so he had a hand in not printing enough copies. The secondary market prices are based on a limited supply and a massive demand, where people are willing to pay much more than MSRP. Willing buyer, willing seller.
I think you're upset about not getting a game you spent a bunch of time trying to locate and drove an hour and half (round trip) for to only find that you weren't going to get it for under it's current going rate.
That FLGS has to compete with online pricing so they lose a lot of business to people wanting a discount. When they receive an in-demand game I think it's ridiculous to assume they shouldn't be apart of trying to make a little extra money on that product. Check out Amazon third party sellers and you'll see the OLGS' selling hard-to-find or OOP games for much higher than MSRP. The MSRP is not an entitlement to a price for a luxury item.
Kudos to the BGG member that sold it to you for $120 but that is an anomaly since they could have made a larger profit by selling it for what it's worth right now.
Congratulations on the game but maybe next time keep your butt hurt to yourself or at least have the decency to not slander a FLGS doing what shouldn't come as a surprise given the demand for Gloomhaven.
