* I do like the idea of 2 on 1 combat by the way. I think it would provide some additional player interaction as well as a team concept. You could also have some neat treachery and gambling tactics added as maybe one gladiator on the 2 team could turn on his teammate for betting gains.

Is the auction phase really taking that long for you? Adding 1 or two more auctions doesn't seem like it would take more than 5 minutes per round..at the longest.
I think the biggest drag of the game with more people would be the Arena Fight, and I'm sure they could work out some options to throw multiple gladiators in their as teams to get more people involved during that phase of the game.
All this being said, it really shouldn't be us speculating, as the creators of the game said there was an expansion in the works at Gen Con, so they have probably thought of a bunch of this and are already playtesting to see if it is viable. I was just hoping to see if I could get any information on it from them or someone who knows.
