We just got the game last weekend and have been playing it very differently.

If you go to the edge you cannot go onto a new tile because it is the equivalent of getting close to the dark and a monster is leaping out and attacking you on your square.

The dungeon is dark, stay away from the edge if you don't want a monster.

This is the steps we do on the end of the hero phase.

Move to the end of the tile. Say give me a tile.

1. if tile is black you get the tile, encounter and a monster.
2. if tile is white you get the tile and a monster.

The encounter acts first, Then the monster gets a chance to do his thing.
( usually it rushes into the tile to rip us to threads. )

This has worked very well at keeping people together but always gives monsters first blood. As they should it is their house.
