I thought I'd combine my 2 set of questions in this thread. If that's not cool, just let me know and I'll post about the expansions in the relevant forum.
So I finally got Arkham Horror and since my new table arrived I thought it'd be a good time for me to bust it out and play it solo to get to grips with gameflow and rules before I introduce my friends to it. I don't usually play solo but I felt this was probably the best route for us and in all honesty ... I actually enjoyed it solo. The victory/ending isn't quite as climatic as with a group I suspect, I kind of just won and was like "cool".
I chose Azathoth as I saw recommendations to start with him, starting characters were Mandy and Gloria (Mandy for the dice roll ability and Gloria for the Other World encounter card choices).
The game lasted about 2.5hours and I won by the skin of my teeth!
I tweaked the rules for an easier play as recommended by some people. Simply did a Mythos phase every other turn as opposed to every turn and was in forever 'blessed' mode.
As I was playing there were certain things I wasn't sure of and couldn't get the answer from the rule book. If anyone has any insight on the following, I'd appreciate it:
1 - If a monster and a gate are open on a location as you land on that gate, do you get sucked into the gate ergo avoiding the monster or do you have to evade/combat the monster before getting sucked into it.
2 - At what point exactly do you get sucked into the gate? Would it be as soon as you land on that location in the movement phase or do you go in there in the encounter phase?
3 - Linking with Q1/2 what order would it all happen? Would you [II: Movement] move onto the gate > evade/fight monster > [III: Encounter] Get suckered into the depths of spoops
4 - If you have been sucked into the gate, do you pick up an encounter card on that turn or is it the next encounter phase?
5 - If you have monsters in the outskirts, and you've managed to kill/lose all monsters on the board ... do you release those beasts onto the board or do they stay there even though all monsters are cleared
6 - How often does the terror tracker move up? Mine didn't move up at all during the game and I'm kind of worried that I forgot something that meant it should move up
7 - Does closing/sealing a gate replaces your Encounter turn? (No picking up a card for that location?)

I'm going to stick with the core game until I have fund available for expansions. I'm aiming to play 3-4 player games of Arkham, all of us are new to it so I was wondering what is your recommendation on the first expansion to get and why?
