That 2 steps rule sounds interesting. There's a lot of variables to take in consideration adding these.

In the variant as i explained it, I was thinking about early game ease to get 4s and 3s just killing ancients. Because just winning versus 1 ancient cause you to take tiles from the winners bag. It also induce the winner's bag to be empty sooner.

Thinking further I consider a bit harsh to the loser player of an epic battle (epic because of the number and type of ships involved) to only have a small odd to receive 2 VPs.

The last think I dislike is a 1vs1 interceptor fight early game, winning 4 Vp.

Your rules definitely solves every issue. However the mechanic seems a bit counterintuitive to me. And how will you redistribute the tiles now that you are adding a 5 value? Dont missunderstood me, I don't think they're bad or anything.

I still have some ideas, but they will add too much complexity to this step.

To summarize, taking in consideration all the information above to the 2 bags rule as I explained it:

- A bag
2x5
3x7
4x4


- B bag
1x12
2x4


- For the winner:
•If the ammount of tiles to draw after the battle (following normal rules) is 2 or 1, draw them from the B bag.

•If they are more than 2 draw them from the A bag.


- For the losers:
•If the ammount of tiles to draw after the battle (following normal rules) is 3, 2 or 1, draw them from the B bag.

•If they are more 3 draw them from the A bag.


- Other basic rules still apply as normal.


- The 2s tiles from the B bag are placed face up at the reputation track, so you know they belong to the that bag. If you want them face down you can also write it on paper or remember where that tile belongs. Note that there are only 4 tiles you have to keep track at maximun so it is a good tradeoff if you think this variant worth it.



:I haven't ponder yet how quick the "good bag" will empty.
