That's an interesting scenario (especially if the last province to be pillaged is also the one to be destroyed).
We interpreted it as the action on Loki's Blessing of If you lose a battle, you may invade that province with a warrior for free happens immediately after the battle is resolved, and before the pillage is considered successful (thus ending the age). I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on it.
I think that's 100% correct. In the rules p.18 it says:
1. Highest STR wins the battle!
2. Discard winning cards and take back losing cards;
3. Remove destroyed units
4. Get reward (if pillage attempt successful) and turn token
5. Get glory
As for the rules, the battle is lost in step 1. while the actual pillage (get pillage reward) happens in step 4. As you also get glory for that last battle, Loki's Blessing should take place a few steps before that.
