Or it could be some future upgraded version of himself that believed his past iterations were flawed and decided to return to the fast to correct this error.

I actually like this line of thinking more than the prevailing "independent minded creation of Omnitron" theory that is dominant right now.

I like it because it runs counter to/in a different direction than a lot of the sentient robot stories that you find in comics.
