I'm relatively new to Arkham Horror. I only bought it a few months ago. I lack a gaming group and my husband doesn't like to play "long games,"so I have been playing solo except for one game with him and one game of four when we had friends visit from out of town.

I got many many solo games under my belt with the base game and loved it so much that I decided to get an expansion. Based on some basic research here and examining the many tempting boxes at my local game store, I decided to get Dunwich Horror. (I've also read almost the entirety of Lovecraft's work and really enjoyed The Dunwich Horror story.)

Unfortunately I have not been able to win a single game since purchasing Dunwich about two months ago. I'd guess that I've played it at least 10 times, varying investigators and ancient ones each time. I've tried different strategies, generally going for a gate-sealing victory, but have ended up with the AO awakening due to too many gates almost every time. When I have tried to not focus on sealing and just prepare my team for the final battle, we eventually run out of time and get unceremoniously torn to pieces.

So I suppose my question is: am I doing something wrong or does Dunwich truly add that much difficulty to the game? I was comfortably beating the base game fairly regularly with three investigators but am getting annihilated in Dunwich with four. Any tips or suggested strategies for me? I love the game and don't mind the occasional ass-whooping, but it would be nice to win once. I do think that only playing solo without other people to bounce ideas off of is a real handicap, but I don't really have a choice. Help! My face is getting eaten!

My group has only played DH 4 times. We were lucky enough to defeat the GOO twice in combat and achieve 6 sealed gates another game (lost to GOO in combat one time). Unless we catch a good break like the last game (6 sealed), we usually strive to prepare most (if not all) the investigaters for GOO combat. We've been burned by gate bursts at least 2 times so preparing for the final battle seems like the way to go.

I do like Austin's suggestion though. We'll have to try that one.
