All right so short, I really don't like to post it as session report... so at the WBC I was playing a friendly game and because the others seemed like rookies (US guys ;)) I decided to pick Eridani...
So first turn I did explore 3 times... 2 at the sector two ; one with money & materials colonized, one with science & advance science not colonized... sector one with one science & one materials colonized. Then one upgrade. Made a pact with Planta giving them science cube. NOw I did my colny ships actually at the very end, colonizing 2 materials & one science (I really don't like money at the start, especially with Eridani). No explores after that, so it was "just" 3 in the game (though we use to joke in our club that Orion doing more than 1 is doing something wrong).
At the second turn I researched Advanced Robotics (as there were 5 Improved Hulls at the table on 5er at this point... although I really see advanced robotics more crucial to anyone anyways... crazy ;) ? ). After that I picked up IH. Then 3 Upgrades & I was done. Colonized the money space still intact. Made a deal with draco and gave he materials cube me thinks (could have also been science).
Turn 3 I built Dreanaught & Interceptor & moved to center. Researched Fusion Source & Upgraded my dreadnaught to look like it had 2 IHs, 1 Gauss Shield, 2 Plasma Cannons, 1 electronic computer, 1 fusion source & nuclear drive. Interceptor had gauss shield, nuclear source, plasma cannon & nuclear drive. Got the center & colonized science & materials & one free with science.
Anyway got then defenses up researching starbases & used my dreadnaughts to get more VPs (=discoveries... didn't take any of them in no VP mode). Ended up winning with 56VPs with just basic game & no optionals (not even nova). In our club that could have been winning score, but we have had also quite commonly a bit over 60's, so I still think Eridani are a bit handicapped and felt that all could have done better with Orion. Anyway I felt it was a good show how to use Eridani money carefully.

Great example. I think playing 3 player with 2 other passive races made it a good strat going straight for the centre. A 6 player would have been more risky. You definately got the right tech available to play them.
One thing I really like is the idea of NOT going for money planets early. Seems smart to me. I'm not sure ... But it does make sense.
