Bearing in mind that we haven't bought any new Munchkin product in a while....

For choosing base sets, I'd take a moment to consider what you're a fan of. Like Lovecraft? Get the Cthulhu version. Like superheroes? Super Munchkin. D&D jokes and high fantasy? The original version.

It's not impossible to mix and match different sets, but you may indeed find that they don't synergize well with each other. For instance, we have the base set and Munchkin Bites, and they don't play very well together. I believe add-ons like Munchkin Blender can help with that, but it may be better to just keep games to single sets or maybe a mix of two at most.

We have the first two expansions for the base game. I find that it keeps things just fresh enough that it's still enjoyable even now. There's just so many cards that it leads to some good variety. You may think differently after many plays, though.

Since we only have two base games, I can't really sound off on which is "best" to get.

Thank you Amanda, that was helpful and resonates with my idea!
I don't have strong preferences about the theme, and I wonder if anyone felt "off" playing other themes since this was clearly conceived as a dungeon crawler (with the all kicking down the door and getting treasure vibe).:surprise:

I agree this is unfortunate and probably something not quite intended when the missions were designed.

From what I remember I just play it as close to the letter of the paragraphs as possible, as always, carrying out instructions in order and taking any action that is applicable, ignoring actions that are not. It would be too much work and too high risk to try to look around at other paragraphs to guess what they might do instead.

Sometimes following the instructions to the letter might end up making something too easy, at other times the opposite. It is often very difficult to even calculate what enemy action would make the mission easier or not. Maybe standing in the open is usually a pretty bad move, but on the other hand that could be just what that German needs the next turn to assault-kill one of my soldiers or something.

They take actions in alphabetic order (on the same row of course).

@All: Btw, what were your locations and randomized enemies with the succesful run?

Locations: Twisting Hall --> Chamber of Statues --> Brigand Camp

Enemies
1) Reanimate Warriors, Zombies, Bandits, Ogres
2) Reanimate Archers, Wraiths, Cave Spiders, Rat Swarms
3) Carrion Worms, Hybrid Sentinels, Sorcers, Goblin Archers

Hmm. Brigand Camp as the last location and no Changeling seems really good. Perhaps I will try next time your distribution right away.

If the Goblin Cavalry token is 1 space away from the castle wall, does it use 1 of its 2 moves to reach the wall and then use the remaining move to attack the wall? Or, does it just use 1 move to reach the wall and then end its turn?

I'm sure I have a copy of the three main ones from the movies. There must be more out here.

OK, thanks for the confirmation. Do you find you mostly work right to left, or left to right? My Germans, as I said, so far had me working left to right mostly.

But, what is the "proximity score" ??

sorry for not mentioning it in the original post, didn't want to add too much complexity. It's a house rule we have, it's basically a numerical representation of how close the other factions are to this one, and we usually hand out the boards in incrementing order from the 1st place of the previous game;

so let's say Polania, Saxony and Togawa are in the game, the previous 1st place would now play Saxony, the 2nd place would play Polania, and the third place would play Togawa. Ties are decided by the lower place.

It's obvious when looking at the board, but the number just makes it a tad quicker to see.

Also worth mentioning that if a drake was already adjacent it would not attack twice! :)

The player can re-enter the game with a new character, placing this character in the starting hallway of the house.

It's different when conditions get added with a surge, right?
I thought conditions could only be received if you did at least 1 damage after rolling all dice?
