Magic Realm is my favorite board game of all time, but it does lie to you somewhat. Magic Realm tricks you into thinking it is a game about tactical combat -- because there are a lot of fiddly rules for combat. Ultimately though, the battles are pretty cut and dry once you get used to the system. I even enjoy the combat, and combats can be exciting, but most all of them are a solved problem (even the more convoluted ones with multiple combatants).

That isn't the game. The game is the day to day and week to week planning to get the most out of the limited days and phases you are given before the end of the month. The battles are part of what you have to navigate to earn your points, along with the map, and the other hazards of the realm. It is a great game, and I find joy in trying to eek out VP while dodging the T Octopus, but if you are looking for a game that hands you scintillating combat after scintillating combat... MR is not it.

That's how I would interpret it. If it was meant only to be on hit, it should say "if you hit" or "if you do at least 1 (damage symbol)"

Or even none of them, just like "knockback" after an attack symbol only applies if you hit.

Knockback is called out in the rulebook as happening as long as the attack does not miss.

Since this is not spelled out on the card, and there is no generic statement in the rulebook regarding attack effects, I would apply the movement no matter what happens with the attack.

Well, let me tell you, with the rise of 3D printing, the ability to make molds has gotten WAY easier, which makes it WAY more expensive. Furthermore, I'm not sure you are aware of this, but plastic is SUPER rare nowadays, and so prices of plastics have skyrocketed. Have you seen the prices of simple sandwich baggies? It's like $40 for a box of 20.

So, yeah, obviously the price of a handful of minis is justified.

I would love files to 3D print an insert! Have you posted the current ones anywhere?

I haven't, I was waiting to get my season 3 so it can be a complete all-in from all seasons before doing so.

I may not be able to acquire Godzilla, though, so it might not be as complete as I would prefer before releasing.

In all honesty most people won't have Godzilla… at least not now (maybe ever depending on CMON). So it may work out anyway. Do you have comic book 2 promos and all other content though?

Yep, everything they allow me to buy! Book 2 promos are not in the system and are waiting for season 3 to be incorporated.

I guess Claustrophia was successful in being a more modern Space Hulk. Remember, you’re reviewing a game from the 1980’s - way ahead of its time.

Gloomhaven doesn't ease you into its card system or gameplay very well so the first scenario is tough.

I'll add that you want to be pushing forward each turn. Maybe not opening the next room right away, but you want to keep from wasting turns. For example, you clear out a room. How many turns does it take to get to the next room? If you have to "waste" a turn simply moving closer to the door, that's one less turn towards combat. Try to push towards the next room a little bit with each turn.

Also, check if you're making any mistakes. There are lots of easily made mistakes early on. For our first outing, we were using the character modifier perk decks as the attack modifier decks. And we made several others. But we got better and now we've completed Jaws of the Lion, Gloomhaven, and Forgotten Circles. Come January, we'll be taking our first steps into The Crimson Scales.

Same, I saw Meet Me At The Table's playthrough and they seemed to just get in the way, the spaces/grid on the board seem too small.

My boardgame shelves are slightly bigger than a kallax, they are 347mm x 348mm.
(The other good thing is that the shelves open onto each other.)

So what i did was I took out all the content and basically stacked it onto the shelves.

Are you certain that it isn't saying the scenario is lost if they are exhausted?

You have it correct.

The expansion makes it so that the Diviner is required to complete each scenario and you lose if she exhausts. However, people have noted the scenarios where she's absolutely required for completion with her unique mechanics. Turns out, she's not needed for the majority of them (though her mechanics are often helpful and lacking her might up the difficulty.)

If you find it difficult to keep her alive, you could always ignore the exhaust rule. Whatever makes the game fun for you.

Yeah, it seemed clunky and a pain to deal with.

...but that's a pipe dream.

Do you know if pledges are going to both coasts? Also, who is doing fulfillment in USA?

I know Comics 2 came from the west coast. Maybe it will be the same for this.

Can't I just buy this when its released?

Hard to be sure - not all crowdfunded projects get a retail release, though these were introduced as a new product line and divided into several shelf-friendly boxes, so it could end up in stores someday.

Either way, it definitely won't be for at least a year from now.

It's possible they'll only be available through the Cephalofair website. That's definitely the case with some existing products, such as the Gloomhaven metal coins. My FLGS couldn't order them for me.

It occurred to me the other day, if you're printing the Trail of Ashes characters, there's alternate character mat artwork available for the five new characters (located in Alternate Art under the Trail of Ashes assets.) The official print of the game doesn't include these so you can choose which versions you want to use!

I appreciate all the suggestions, stories and polite commentary. I think the passionfor MR from the community is part of what attracted me to the game in the first place. I don't think it is a bad game by any means. I am very captivated by the computer-esque setup board. The designer was ahead of his time with that mechanism.

I will give it a few more goes. I've played 3 times solo over the board before i decided to blitz about a dozen games on RealmSpeak over the last week, a mixture of multi character and solo games to internalize the procedures enough to help my group play once I feel comfortable leading and have made sufficient aids. For context and transparency, half of those games I played were white knight before I branched out. I have not tried any non-melee friendly characters.

I've found pouring over the logs, the realmspeak combat guide, studying the book of learning and taking notes on Jean Michel Grosjeu's youtube series to help me feel pretty comfortable with all the basic procedures.

I have survived 28 days a couple of times, but it was mostly spent hiding (at least a coulple critical early hiding rolls each of those games that would have probably led to death if they failed) and harvesting treasure piles...sometimes in the final week of the game, I see glimpses of the large scale battles (I managed to gain 3 from the order by the end of one game and I was wrecking some monsters that game...)

Hi there hunter fellows. I had a few plays about some time ago. I am impressed of wonderful work has been done by three men. That's absolutely great. Now I wanna talk a couple of words about Hogbad. How do you see the flaming rampant God of beasts? Did you ever think, the huge uncontrollable elemental rampaging Being woud...
... just ramble through the lands while the hunt is prolonging.

Why at all Hogbad has gotten this useless ability named ramble states just move 1 step while he's gotten ability givivg him summon one minion and move 1 step in any order? Whereas other Beasts have much more interesting abilities e.g. beastly tongue, gather the pack, shadow step with this void presence upgrade. There are no even an upgrade to increase that garbage. It's a boring thing. Why don't give it something making that ability deeper?
