Using the new Mole rules, where you can plant the Mole at any start of round you want (rather than the leader being in the casualty pool), last time we played, two Moles were planted! We were playing with Hacan, Letnev, Sol and Yssaril (custom faction). We used "Guaranteed Opponent Traitor Choice" and "additional betrayal cards" where all players got 2 betrayal cards each and got to choose one of them, which increased the chances of getting a good betrayal card and traitor card combo.

However, it was the Letnev and Yssaril, who had started with more options or had the means of increasing them, that planted the Moles. Letnev of course starts with 4 traitors and Yssaril can get additional traitors and betrayal cards. This helped greatly in finding nice Mole combos that had high potential. In fact, I and the Letnev player played our Moles in the same round and targetted the same player! The Sol player was dominating the map, which made them the obvious Mole choice. They knew after that, however, two of their leders that were safe to use, so they benifitted slightly from that information.

In the end, there was a situation with a Stronghold controlled but under bombardment and the three other strongholds being contested in round 5. Basically, one of Sol, Yssaril or Letnev was going to win. I had put too few troops on the map to swing both my battles my way, and the Sol player had few answers for Letnevs strategy cards. So Letnev won.

I think we are in a really good place with the Moles now! It feels very benificial, but still somewhat hard to set up and potentially easily countered, depending on what the condition is. We might have to iron out some wrinlles, but in general we will be playing with Moles almost always in the future. 😀
