I can't speak about CoN but have QftDL (2nd ed). The integration of questing with a pretty straight forward area conquest game makes it almost unique. You need four players for it although up to six can play with the expansion. But with this integration each player's turn can start to become rather complex as you first conduct and resolve your questing activity then do the same with your regular map-board activities both of which can involve combat etc. This can result in downtime which would have been routine back in the day but which players can become annoyed with these days as more recent game designs deliberately have reduced down-times. Your group doesn't sound promising as games of at least four players will likely take longer than 2 1/2 hours to play out.I think QftDL is a better game than is commonly appreciated but it has been abandoned by its creators so it remains a work in progress and essentially unfinished. A few fans have made some contributions (see variants and files) but otherwise it is at a dead end. I enjoyed the few games I've played but didn't get a lot of enthusiasm from the others in our group - too many better games out there. That said, the only other remotely similar game to this is Runewars (which I refuse to entertain on principle) which is unfortunate as the mixing of strategy with character questing can be a compelling combination.
