Well, in a 4-player game, hurting a single opponent isn't as beneficial as in a 2-player game, so I'd say that the intrigue challenge is less crucial in that format (and by the same logic, the power challenge is the most important). It's still often worth it to attack for several reasons (if you think you can get unopposed, if you have a renown character, if you need to kneel out an important character that the opponent has to defend with to win the challenge, if that opponent is a big threat, if you can trigger some effect off of winning intrigue, etc etc).By the way, in multiplayer games you also get a power for winning a challenge against someone with an opposing title (max 1 power per round gained that way). But yeah, the first games tend to be really slow, so I agree with Darksbane, play some 2p first to get people acquainted with the rules and cards.
